The principal purpose of Hindu Society Of Tasmania is to promote Hindu culture and civilisation through literature, music and performing arts.

The principal purpose is to be achieved by the following principal activities:
  •      - Printing and publishing any newsletters, periodicals or leaflets that the society may consider desirable for the promotion of its
  •      objectives;
  •     - The establishment of a public library of books in relation to Hindu philosophy and civilisation;
  •     - To conduct classes to teach Indian vocal music;
  •     - To conduct classes to teach Indian cultural dance; 
  •     - To conduct classes to teach Indian instrumental music;
  •     - To organize traditional hindu festivals such as Diwali (festival of lights) and Navarathri to showcase the above arts and bring all of the
  •     Tasmanian community together.
The Society may also conduct the following ancillary activities, provided they do not interfere with, or detract from the principal purpose of the Society:

- To promote universal brotherhood;
- To help victims of natural disasters as and when need arises;
- To establish a Hindu temple to conduct prayer meetings with spiritual and devotional singing in groups;
- To organize learned speakers/pundits to talk on Hindu scriptures, vedas and philosophy including the interpretation of the sanskrit scriptures;
- To organize visits of hindu priests/pundits to conduct religious ceremonies such as weddings, births and deaths;
- To establish a school for the teaching of Hindu philosophy , culture and languages; and 
- Organise adult education classes, yoga and meditation classes study groups, workshops, seminars and other related activities for the study of Hindu philosophy and civilisation.
